Inspiration

There are millions of pages on the web, but which are the genuinely great online destinations? Here is my personal selection.

A List Apart
Absolutely superb articles on designing Websites, new ideas, lots of really good technology. Design-wise, it is very simple, but still attractive. The really interesting thing is that lots of people write for the site and they all have interesting ideas about how we can push the boundaries of what we do on the Web.

virgin.com

google.co.uk
I think everything has already been said throughout the Web community, but here it is again. Yahoo used to be the market leader for search engines, but Google’s clean, unambiguos lines win the day. It does exactly what it says on the tin, with a few hidden extras.

play.com
Effective and flattering to Amazon as it is designed along similar lines. The downside is that the titles on sale could do with a better or indepth review for those who are “cold purchasing”.

Bodum
Reef
Champs Elysees

Glish
Where coding, markup, stylesheets and internet matters are discussed. It is a great resource for stuff to do with stylesheets.

Bluerobot
Simple doesn’t need to be dull, as the clear, concise layout of Bluerobot demonstrates. Although it hasn’t been updated for a while, it is where I got inspiration the first iteration of this site.

K10k
K10k practices what it preaches - the benefits of good design. Although the site’s homepage is packed with information, images and links, it’s not over busy or cluttered, enabling visitors to find their way around the site without being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information.

Pixelsurgeon
Go beyond Pixelsurgeon’s homepage and you will find dozens of beautifully designed pages showcasing state-of-the-art digital graphics.

Surfstation
Features interviews, features and more - a destination to discover what’s going on at the cutting edge of Web Building.

Marks & Spencer
